How to tell if it is time to change the oil in your commercial truck

There are many ways that you can tell if it is time to change the oil in your commercial truck. Keeping up with your oil changes is essential for the prolonged health of your engine components and functions. Some of the ways that you can tell if you need an oil change include:

- If the oil stick shows debris or degraded oil

- If your oil sensors indicate that your oil needs to be changed

- If your technicians has recommended that you change your oil more frequently

If your oil appears sludgy, or the base level is low enough for corrosion to start, you should schedule maintenance for your truck immediately. Since there is no way to check your engine’s oil in real time, it is recommended that you check the oil every few days depending on your travel. You can also extend the intervals between oil changes by practicing certain driving techniques. Some of these techniques can include practicing fuel efficient driving, choosing routes that have smoother roads, and by keeping up with routine engine maintenance.

What about the other fluids in my commercial truck and equipment?

In addition to changing your oil at regular intervals, you should also make sure to keep on top of the levels of your other fluids. Along with your oil change, be sure to have your transmission fluid, brake fluid, coolant, windshield washer fluid, and even your tire pressure levels checked out.

For all of your oil and fluid needs, we encourage you to consider Iron Creek Truck & Trailer today. Click here to find our contact information or speak with a representative today.
